Oblique orientation of the IOI "strap" reduces localized stress due to folding; this allows folding of high tensile strength materials otherwise unachievable by conventional forming methods. In the case of alternate sided IOI lancing, a perfectly straight and repeatable notional fold line occurs equidistant from IOI features on opposite sides of the fold.
